Babe Farms ×
The creation of Babé Farms can be credited to its visionary founder Will Souza, a third generation farmer from a pioneer farm family in the Santa Maria Valley. Will, an avid world traveler, while in Europe in the early 1980’s noticed the popularity of delicate salad greens called “mesclun” and mini “baby size” vegetables, a gourmet delight! An innovator by nature, Will returned to the family farm to capitalize on the idea of growing the European lettuce varieties and mini “baby” vegetables. In 1986, Will and his founding partners; Frank & Judy Lundberg and Greg & Cherrie Pedigo established “Babé Farms”, a small innovative company breaking the mold of traditional farming. Babé Farms was one of the first to introduce packaged European salad mixes “mesclun”, hand selected specialty greens and a colorful array of baby vegetables into the United States and Canada.
In the 80’s and early 90’s, spring mix salad greens weren’t completely embraced by consumers, traditional lettuce varieties such as; iceberg, romaine, red & green leaf dominated the grocery shelves. Over time, as fine dining restaurants began serving these frilly and flavorful salad greens, the consumer began to demand packaged spring mix at the retail level. Additionally, with the revolution of the Food Network, foodie websites, blogs, specialty produce distributors, upscale grocers and a wide array of publications dedicated to gourmet cooking there has been substantial growth in the specialty produce category.
Today, Babé Farms has “grown-up”, growing and harvesting over seventy different varieties of gourmet vegetables, including a colorful spectrum of baby carrots, specialty radishes, baby beets, baby lettuces, specialty greens, organic kales and spring mix, just to name a few. Committed to food safety and sustainable farming practices, Babé is the testing ground for many new varieties specialty vegetables and leafy greens. Now offering an extensive list of nearly 600 customized packs that meet the needs of well-stocked retailers and top chefs across the U.S. and Canada. Based year-round in the mild climate of Santa Maria, California, Babé Farms processes and ships from their newly opened facility; Fresh Venture Foods.
Judy Lundberg-Wafer, one of the original founding members of Babé Farms and her son Jeff Lundberg now own and operate Babé Farms. In early 2014, Judy stepped aside as Babé Farms President/CEO and passed the torch to her son Jeff who now serves as the President/CEO of the company. Lundberg-Wafer continues to play an active role as Babé Farms Chairman of the Board. It’s always been a “family style” business; many of the employees from the field and office/sales staff have been with the company for over twenty years. The focus of Babé Farms is the same; maintaining superior quality, innovation and genuine customer relationships. Now, almost thirty years later, what was once a little company with a big vision Babé Farms has now become the premiere label in specialty vegetables and one of the main catalysts for the gourmet revolution in the produce industry.

The company maintains its own seed program in Oregon, where each year, raw garlic bulbs are shipped to California, processed, and planted. By maintaining an “in house” seed program, The Garlic Company is in complete control of its raw material chain, ensuring not only consistent flavor but also complete traceability.
The type of seed variety grown is also very important. The Garlic Company grows a variety of seed called “California Late,” well known for producing a true and robust garlic flavor which distinguishes this variety from other domestically grown and imported varieties. Studies have proven that “California Late” not only has a solid structure but also a higher brix level, which directly contributes to producing an award-winning garlic flavor. It is one reason many respected chefs opt for the overall quality of “California Late” garlic.
The Garlic Company’s product line has grown dramatically over the years, but the keys to its success have remained constant: Providing quality garlic to our customers is foremost. But, just as important, we offer exceptional customer service and the comfort of working with a trusted, reliable partner.

Johnson's Backyard Garden ×
Johnson’s Backyard Garden got its start in 2004 when Brenton Johnson transformed his East Austin backyard in the Holly Street neighborhood into a bountiful vegetable garden. Brenton used his experience slinging grilled cheese sandwiches at Grateful Dead shows and began selling his backyard bounty at the Austin Farmers’ Market downtown. This was the start of our farm!
In 2006, Brenton started a small CSA Program beginning with around 30 Austin families. The backyard garden eventually took over the front and side yards, too, leaving Brenton’s kids with little room to play.
In the summer of 2006, we purchased 20 acres just five miles east of downtown Austin on Hergotz Lane. Three years later, the entire 20 acres was full of vegetables and it was clear that we needed more land to keep up with Austin’s growing appetite for local and organic produce.
In the spring of 2010, with the help of our CSA members, we purchased land on River Road in Garfield, Texas, introducing us to what would become our home for years to come. Today, we farm on 186 acres, situated on the high bank of the Colorado River. We farm using only certified organic methods, and focus on producing a diverse variety of the highest quality vegetables, fruits and herbs. We grow over 200 different crops! You can enjoy our produce delivered straight to your home or neighborhood through our CSA program– you know it’s a good day when you see our hand-painted delivery van! You can also find JBG vegetables at many local restaurants, grocery stores, and local farmers’ markets. The crew of just over 100 men and women that make up the JBG team take serious pride in the quality of vegetables we produce and look forward to growing food for you and your family for years to come

Many of our ranches are now being managed by the fourth, fifth, or even sixth generation. It’s hard to believe that some of our land was being farmed before Washington State was admitted to the Union!
Though not all of us qualify as blood relations, we are most certainly family by association – connected by a common philosophy. We are fueled by a united effort to grow, pack, and ship the best, most flavorful fruit. We know that working together helps us all succeed. And like most families, our bond often extends past the workday – we vacation together, lend a hand or a hammer when it’s needed, and support each others’ families in the community.
One could say the American Dream has become a reality for us.

Taylor Farms ×
Taylor Farms’ high quality salads and vegetables begin with high-quality farming families. Since the beginning we’ve partnered with over 100 family growers across the country; several have been farming in the Salinas Valley since the early 1920’s. Many say farmers were America’s first environmentalists. This continues to be true today. The land is our growers’ livelihood. They are committed to using sustainable farming practices to grow the finest quality vegetables and preserve their land in order to pass onto the next generation of farmers.
Our story began in the Salinas Valley, affectionately called America’s Salad Bowl. It was here, where Bruce Taylor followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather and became the third generation to work in the fresh produce business. In 1995, Bruce and several partners founded Taylor Fresh Foods. A new company with a new vision was born – to be North America’s favorite maker of salads and healthy fresh foods. Our 10,000 employees, who include our 2,000 person Salinas-based Retail Team, care about the quality and name that is on our products. It is through their hard work that we are able to deliver the best quality products to local grocery stores daily. Our success would not be possible without our dedicated team and we are grateful to have each one as part of our Taylor Farms Family.
Community involvement has been part of Taylor Farms since day one. We run and walk for causes we believe in, we give bikes and backpacks to kids, we sponsor local coaches, we award scholarships, and we make our neighborhoods, parks, and schools better. Giving back to our local communities is our passion. We are thankful and proud of our success, but the most inspiring part for our Taylor Farms Family is sharing our success with our community.

The Boone Family Foundation ×
Members of the Boone family share a vision of what they would like the world to be. In 2007, Garrett and Cecilia Boone and their three adult children took a huge leap toward creating that world by starting The Boone Family Foundation.
Since then, The Boone Family Foundation has worked to be a resource for social justice. Its goal is to be an innovative funder that tries to promote and support organizations and programs that will make the community a fair and just place for all people. The foundation also works to challenge the status quo, shifting traditions and norms of the community that others may not want to see shifted. It’s had an impact, because it has brought issues to the light of day that haven’t previously been addressed.
In 2008, the foundation made its first grant to Parkland Health and Hospital System for $100,000 for the construction of a women and infant specialty hospital. As the foundation has grown, it has worked strategically to support organizations and causes that will lead to a greater world. The list of organizations it has given grants and gifts to includes The Family Place, Planned Parenthood, Dallas Women’s Foundation, Teach for America, Reading Partners, Teaching Trust and Klyde Warren Park.
As The Boone Family Foundation forges ahead, it will continue to seek lasting, long-term systems change by supporting organizations and causes that want to be change agents.
Community Health Choice ×
When we opened our doors 20 years ago, no one could have imagined what Community Health Choice would become. We began in 1997 with only a handful of employees who had a narrow mission: Improve the health of underserved children in Harris County by making health insurance more affordable. Two decades later, everything we do is still guided by a mission to open doors to better health in Southeast Texas.
We’re proud of all that we have accomplished in the name of this mission, and that’s why we’re celebrating the remarkable chance we’ve been given to serve our Members. We feel humbled and honored by the opportunity to continue the important work we’re doing for the next 20 years and beyond.

The Cullen Foundation ×
Established in 1947 by Hugh Roy and Lillie Cranz Cullen, The Cullen Foundation has a history of giving generously to support cultural arts, education, health care and public service in Texas, primarily in the greater Houston area. Cullen Family members still take active roles as Directors of the Foundation continuing the legacy of giving initiated by Mr. and Mrs. Cullen during their lives.
The original gift from Mr. and Mrs. Cullen to establish the Foundation consisted of working interests in oil and gas properties. Over the ensuing years the working interests, later converted into royalty interests, were gradually depleted and the residual holdings were disposed of in 2000. As the Foundation reduced its dependence on oil and gas income, its portfolio of marketable securities and other investments began to grow. As of December 31, 2017 the portfolio had a market value of $320 million. The list of organizations receiving grants from the Foundation is long and diverse, covering a wide range of needs. The Foundation has distributed over $500 million in grants since inception.
The $500 million in grants since inception includes over $44 million in grants made to fund three Cullen trusts in the 1970’s. Each trust has an independent board of trustees dedicated to a single purpose and continues to award grants of their own each year. The trusts are The Cullen Trust for Health Care, The Cullen Trust for Higher Education and The Cullen Trust for the Performing Arts.
